Biography of Michael Owusu Addo (Sarkodie)

SARKODIE

Michael Kwesi Owusu Addo (born July 10, 1988), is widely known by his stage name Sarkodie or Obidiponbidi, is a recording hip-life and hip-hop artiste and a brand ambassador from Tema, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. He has many achievements associated to his name in the music industry in Ghana and basically one of the best in history.Many Ghanaians recognize him as one of the leading hip hop and hiplife artists in the country. He is considered one of the major artiste who brought of the Azonto genre and dance back to life in Ghana and the world at  large.


Early Life

Sarkodie is the fourth of five children of his single mum Emma Maame Aggrey. He started rap in his childhood in the year 1992, four years old then. Through Achimota Preparatory School in Achimota to Tema Methodist Day Senior High School, he was known for his outstanding art till he made the mark. Continuing his education at IPMC for his degree in Graphic Designing. 

Music Career

Sarkodie made his breakthrough through a native language (Twi) in Ghana by tongue twisting clever rhymes off head. He pursuing his dream in music through freestyling on a rap show on Adom 106.3 FM named 'Kasahare Level' hosted by Duncan Williams. Gradually he took himself to t he top emerging as the best rapper in Tema. It was through this show he met his manager who was then the host of the rap show.  he was noticed by one of the best contributors in Ghana music, Edward Nana Poku Osei, also known as Hammer ( The Last Two) together with others like Edem and Castro. Hammer then helped then release 'You Dey Craze.' Eventhough Sarkodie was known then, this track got his name on the lips of the youth in Ghana till he realeased his first hit track 'Baby'. This track featured Mugeez of the R2bees made Sarkodie a household name in Ghana till his debut album. Sarkodie is now making waves with English too to exhibit his milti-talent to the world.
